This week the Reinhardt Eagles play their second home game of the 2014 season when they host the undefeated and 10th-ranked Faulkner University Eagles. Reinhardt is coming off a hard fought loss to the Kentucky Christian Knights.
Reinhardt opened the scoring against the Knights with a quick four-play assault to post the game’s opening touchdown. Sam Jones capped the drive with a reception pass from Jonathan Chamblee as Reinhardt soared on top 7-0 with 3:24 left in the 1st quarter. Kentucky Christian finally got on the board at 1:02 in the half on a 13-yard touchdown reception by Trey Stunk to tie the game at 7 heading into halftime.
After halftime, Reinhardt again jumped in front by going 70 yards in just 2 minutes. L.J Stegall put the Eagles ahead 13-7 with a 35-yard touchdown run that put the Eagles ahead 13-7. Kentucky Christian took momentum by scoring on its next 3 possessions, opening up a 24-13 lead for the Knights.
In the 4th quarter, Reinhardt tried to fight back but could only got as close as 24-21 when Chamblee found Jones for a 64-yard touchdown 8:42 to go.
Kentucky Christian’s Jayln Davis scores his second touchdown of the day on 4th and goal essentially ending the game. Reinhardt ended the game with Hunter Oswald getting a pair of sacks and three tackles for the loss. Offensively Reinhardt had 216 yards. Stegall’s 63 yards led RU’s rushing attack.
Last weekend in Montgomery, Alabama Faulkner University played a hard fought game against Union College. Faulkner started out on a bad note when Union took the opening kickoff and drove 88 yards for a touchdown in only 16 plays. Although, 4 plays later the Faulkner Eagles were back in the game to bring the score to 7-6. Faulkner then scored 48 points in the second and third quarter to take complete control for the rest of the game. After a hard fought first half, Faulkner had a 27-14 lead to begin the second half of the game. Faulkner scored four times in the third quarter bringing the score to have an even larger gap, 54-21. Union then scored two more touchdowns to then lead Faulkner’s reserve quarterback Truman Franklin to fight and score from 5 yards out to end the game. Robinson had 55 yards to lead the team, following closely with Simon Smiley at 48 and Joe Jones at 45. Broughton had 4 solo tackles, Mitchell Hoskins had 10 total tackles and Aramis Calloway followed with 9. To lead the team in solo tackles, Holden Keith finished the game with a total of 5 solo stops for Faulkner University. Faulkner’s offense had 638 yards to Union’s 440 yards and 13 penalties. The final score of the game was Faulkner 61 and Union 34.
Both the Reinhardt Eagles and Faulkner Eagles come into this weekend looking for a win. With Faulkner clearly having a very aggressive offense the Reinhardt Eagles are going to have to make sure their defense is on their game. Kick off between the Reinhardt Eagles and the Faulkner Eagles is set for noon net Saturday at Ken White Field in Waleska, GA.
