Albany State men’s basketball was back in action at home Monday night against the Clark Atlanta University Panthers.
The Golden Rams were coming off a close 69-67 road win against their rivals Fort Valley State University on Saturday. The Rams looked to ride that wave right on into Monday’s matchup against the Panthers who are coming off a 73-66 overtime win over Morehouse College.
The game was competitive from the tip and extremely close with nobody able to gain a significant lead. The score at the break would have Albany State trailing 29-26. The biggest lead of the game was 6 points held by the Panthers half way through the second half. Late in the game junior guard Reggie James was at the free throw line. James made the first and missed the second, however this did put Albany State up 59-55. With just 10 seconds left in the game Clark Atlanta’s Jalen Williams drilled a 3 pointer to bring the Panthers within 1. Still, Albany State was able to squeeze out a close home win 59-58.
Jalen Williams lead all scorers with 18 points, Maurice Dickson lead ASU with 11 points and 9 rebounds.
ASU moved to 6-13 on the season and 6-7 in the SIAC with their third straight victory. The Golden Rams hope that this win streak can set the tone for the rest of conference play and give them a boost going into the conference tournament.
