ECU Women’s Basketball Hosts WNIT

The Lady Pirates earned themselves the opportunity to play in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). This was the third season in a row where the Pirates made an appearance.

They say the third time’s the charm, right? This isn’t new to them but, having the opportunity to host the game was a first!

The Lady Pirates were able to knockout Radford Highlanders sending them home with a final score of 74-52 during the first round.  Not being their first time performing in this tourney you could see the confidence in their eyes and in the way they handled the ball. Junior Jada Payne led in scoring with 22 points that night.

Next up they would face the NC State Wolfpack. These two teams hadn’t met since 2007, where the Pirates defeated the Wolfpack. However, this game hadn’t had the same fate. The lady Pirates were not able to hold on to the lead they fought so hard for and lost 69-65 ending their season.

However, that night Minges coliseum was full of Pirate fans there supporting the girls with a new energy that is usually only brought during the regular season. You could definitely smell the WNIT in the air!

We wish all our senior Lady Pirates the best of luck and thank them for an awesome season! ARGHHHHH!
