ECU women’s lacrosse took the field at Johnson Stadium Wednesday for their first ever scrimmage against Mount Olive University.
In 2016 it was announced that the athletic department would be adding a women’s lacrosse team and now in 2017 Pirate Nation is getting to witness this team come to life after all of the hard work and preparation that has been put in this fall to get ready for this spring.
Unfortunately, the Pirates fell short 12-7 against Mount Olive but the players still remain positive and confident about the future success of this ECU team.
Freshman Mika Mapp said the hustle and heart was there Wednesday night and that there are just little issues that need to be tweaked.
” I think we are just going to keep working hard and conditioning, we go hard every single day and we don’t give up we always have a monologue to get a little bit better day by day and I think that is what we are going to keep doing,” said Mapp.
Win or lose this Pirate team still made history that night and this group knows just how important that is.
Sophomore Mackell Schultes said, “It’s really cool because we are always like oh should we do this or should we not do this because everything we do is going to be like they were the ones who did it so it is kind of like hard and fun at the same time.”
Women’s lacrosse will play again on October 27th at Carolina against UNC.
