WINSTON-SALEM, NC– The Elon University Women’s Track & Field Team made their 2014 season debut this weekend at the Wake Forest Invitational. The competition was held inside the JDL FastTrack complex, the same site that the 2014 Southern Conference Championship will be held at the end of the season.
Elon competed in many field and track events and performed very well for not having competed as a team since May of last season.
Elon Head Coach Mark Elliston was well aware of that heading into the weekend.
“What I wanted to see today was that everyone was going to at least give it their best shot with what they had practice wise. I wanted to see what they could do with their determination and their heart and I think we saw a lot of good performances and it is also and indication for everyone that we have got some work to do. “
The team will travel to Lynchburg, Virginia next weekend for the Liberty Open. Elliston hopes that the Phoenix can take many lessons from this weekend and continue to build as the season goes along.
“If everyone takes care of what they are doing for this team and their event, focusing on getting as good as they can and doing as best a job they can in their event, then together we are going to have a good team because everyone is working hard in their area and then it all comes together.”
