Former Southern Miss point guard Jamierra Faulkner earns a spot on the WNBA team, the Chicago Sky.
The West Palm Beach, Fla., native made the Sky’s 12-woman roster, only the second Southern Miss player to make a WNBA team roster. She played in both of the Sky’s preseason games, scoring a team-high 11 points against the Indiana Fever. Over a two game period, she averaged nearly four points per game and one assist.
Arguably, Faulkner led Southern Miss to one of its most successful seasons in school history. During her senior year, she led the Lady Eagles in scoring, averaging (17.7 ) points per game, assists (8.6) and steals (3.1). The 2014 all-C-USA first team point guard also received the C Spire Gillom Trophy and Defensive Player of the Year award.
Faulkner was the only player in Southern Miss history to compile 800 or more assists and only the second player in Conference USA. She set a single season record, dishing out 238 assists and registering double-digit points or assists in 26 games during her senior year.
The stellar point guard ended her Southern Miss career, finishing third all-time in scoring with 2,056 points, first all-time in assists with 883 and the nation’s top single game performance record of posting a career-high 17 assists.
