On Tuesday, January 14, the Georgia Bulldogs men’s basketball team hit the road to Gainesville where they took on the Florida Gators, who are ranked No.7, for what was their third conference game of the season. Marcus Thornton, Kenny Gaines, Brandon Morris, Donte’ Williams, and Charles Mann were the starting five but it was freshman Juwan Parker who scored a career high of 13 points. Thornton led in boards with seven rebounds and 11 points.
However, these efforts were not enough to capitalize a win over Florida. Michael Frazier II led the Gators with 21 points and several other players scored in double figures. These efforts along with multiple turnovers and a lack of defense from Georgia allowed the Florida Gators to cinch the win. Georgia also only shot 33 percent from the field. The final score of this game was 72-50. This was Georgia’s first conference loss of the season.
Georgia is currently 2-1 in the conference, with wins over Missouri (70-64) and Alabama (66-58) and 8-7 overall. The Bulldogs will return to Athens this Saturday, January 18, to take on Arkansas. The game will be televised on SEC-TV. With the first conference loss of the season fueling their energy and the Athens atmosphere on their side, it is the hopes of the Bulldog nation that Georgia will pull a W this weekend.
