    Morehouse Annouces New Volleyball Program

    Morehouse will add a new sport for the 2020-21 school year. At a recent press conference plans to add Volleyball were announced by President  Davis Thomas and Interim Athletic Director Jay Edwards. The program is being made possible through a $1 million dollar grant to the SIAC through USA Volleyball and First Point Volleyball Foundation.

     

    The Morehouse program is part of a national effort to bring the sport to Historically Black Colleges and Universities. In all, 5 men’s volleyball programs will launch in the SIAC next year. Joining Morehouse will be Central State, Kentucky State, Benedict, and Paine.

    Volleyball is the fastest growing team sport in the United States for high school boys, growing at 21 percent over the last five years.According to Edwards, Morehouse is starting a national search for a head coach for the new Maroon Tigers Volleyball Team.
