MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Berry College men’s basketball team is seeing steady improvement from last season with only seven games under their belt for the 2013-2014 season.
Under new head coach, Jeff Rogers, and new assistant coaches, Thomas Johnson and Matt Mixer, the Vikings’ newfound aggressiveness has propelled them to a respectable 3-4 start to the season. Last year, the Vikings finished with a dismal 5-21 record, only averaging 60.4 points per game, shot 40.8% from the field and allowed 70.5 points per game.
This season, with the addition of promising freshmen and solid play from sophomore forward, Owen Jacobs, the Vikings have already won 60 percent of the games they won last season by averaging 78.1 points per game.
Jacobs, a transfer from Newberry College, leads the team with 21.7 points per game and 11.7 rebounds per game.
The Vikings’ next game is against Covenant College on Dec. 14.
