Oglethorpe head baseball coach Dan Giordano earned a milestone victory over the weekend, garnering his 200th career win in the team’s 6-0 triumph over Curry in Game 2 of Sunday’s doubleheader at Anderson Field. Giordano becomes just the second baseball coach in program history to win 200 career games at the helm of the program.
Now in his 14th season as the Stormy Petrels’ head coach, Giordano is the program’s winningest coach since it was restarted as an NCAA Division III program in 1992. He passed Bill Popp as the winningest Division III coach in Oglethorpe history with his 169th win on April 7, 2015. Popp served as Giordano’s head coach when he played at Oglethorpe from 1999 through 2002. The all-time winningest coach in Oglethorpe baseball history is the legendary Frank Anderson, who accrued 296 career victories during his 27 seasons at the helm from 1916 through 1944.
“I’m grateful Oglethorpe has given me the opportunity to coach the team for as long as I have,” Giordano said. “I’m proud of the work we have done throughout the years and how much we have grown as a program. We will continue to develop players on and off the field and move this program forward. There are so many people to thank, but in the end, it comes down to the players. I’ve very lucky to have coached some amazing student-athletes.”
The Petrels currently sit at 4-2 on the season, and will take on in-state opponents LaGrange and Covenant in their next two games before entering SAA play.
