Recently, coach Andy Kaplan’s Reinhardt Lady Eagles soccer team played the first two of four consecutive Appalachian Athletic Conference road contests. By winning both games, the Lady Eagles improved their record to 7-1-1, with a 2-1 mark in conference play.
On Saturday, September 26th, the Lady Eagles traveled to Bluefield, Virginia to face the Bluefield College Rams who are playing their first season as a member of the AAC. Reinhardt defeated Bluefield, 5-2. The Lady Eagles scored three times in the first 28 minutes of the game, with their first goal coming only three minutes after kickoff when senior midfielder Stephanie Goins capitalized off a corner kick from fellow senior Kristin Clegg to give the Lady Eagles a 1-0 lead. Just before the clock hit the 20 minute mark, Reinhardt found the back of the net a second time, as senior forward Lindsey White scored off an assist from junior Allie Hale. Hale would also score a goal of her own in the 27th minute to give her squad a 3-0 advantage.
Down 3-0, Bluefield refused to quit. The Rams scored twice in ten minutes to pull within a single goal. Bluefield’s first goal came courtesy of Victoria Doyle, while Harumi Nishi added the second score off an assist from Whitney Browning. The two Bluefield goals made the score 3-2 at the half.

In the second 45 minutes, the Reinhardt ladies dominated the action, scoring two goals while holding Bluefield scoreless. Sophomore Megan McCall, a Kennesaw, Georgia native, scored both second half goals for the Lady Eagles, with her first coming just 33 seconds into the half off an assist from Stephanie Goins. In the 69th minute, McCall scored again, this time off an assist from Lindsey White. The two goals by McCall gave Reinhardt a 5-2 advantage, and when the final horn sounded Reinhardt had its first conference win of the season.
Just four days after defeating Bluefield, the Lady Eagles traveled to Dayton, Tennessee to face another AAC opponent, the Bryan College Lions Lions. Sophomore midfielder Katie Goodrich found the back of the net, scoring the game’s lone goal to lift Reinhardt over Bryan, 1-0. Goodrich’s goal came late in the first half off an assist from Kristin Clegg. For the contest, Reinhardt managed 31 shots with 15 being on target, while Bryan managed a mere seven shots with one being on goal. Reinhardt goalkeeper Colby LaFever made one save in 90 minutes of action.
Up next, the Reinhardt Lady Eagles head to St Andrews University in Laurinburg, North Carolina for a rematch of last year’s Appalachian Athletic Conference championship game. Kickoff is set for 12 Noon EST on Saturday, October 3, 2015.
