Atlanta, GA—The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its volleyball players of the week for the first installment of the 2013 SIAC Volleyball Season as voted by the SIAC Sports Information Directors Association.
Albany State University senior middle hitter Jillian Anderson was named SIAC Offensive Player of the Week and Paine College freshman middle blocker Rachel Walker was named Defensive Player of the Week.SIAC Newcomer of the Week was awarded to Albany State junior setter Amanda Cook.
Offensive Player of the Week
Jillian Anderson, Albany State University
Class: Senior Position: Middle Hitter Height: 5-7 Hometown: Athens, GA
Accomplishment: The senior returning All-SIAC selection had a total of 22 kills during the West Florida Invitational over the weekend to lead Albany State in the above category.
Defensive Player of the Week
Rachel Walker, Paine College
Class: Freshman Position: Defensive Specialist Height: 5-5 Hometown: Hooks, TX
Accomplishment: Walker contributed to 56 digs for the Lady Lions this weekend in matches against Milligan, Coker, Emmanuel, Pointe and Northwood at the Battle of the Springs Tournament. Although Paine lost all five matches, the freshman had a game high in digs for each match.
Newcomer of the Week
Amanda Cook, Albany State University
Class: Junior Position: Setter/Defensive Specialist Height: 5-5 Hometown: Kenneth City, Fla.
Accomplishment: Making her first appearance in a Lady Rams uniform, Cook collected 86 digs in three matches at the West Florida Invitational.
