The University of Southern Mississippi track and field team participated in the NCAA East Preliminaries Friday in Jacksonville, Fla., with hopes to qualify for the 2014 NCAA National Outdoor Championship.
In the 110-meter hurdles, junior Randy McCoy recorded a personal-best time of 13.78, placing him in fourth in his heat and allowing him to qualify for the National Outdoor Championship.
The Flowood, Miss., native is no stranger to success. His personal bests include recording a 6.88 in the 60 meters, 22.81 in the 200 meters, 7.96 in the 60-meter hurdles, 10.85 in the 100 meters and 13.94 in the 110-meter hurdles.
With a 7.96 finish in the 60-meter hurdles, McCoy earned Conference USA third team honors, finishing third place at the C-USA meet in his sophomore year.
The 2014 NCAA National Outdoor Championship will begin on June 11 in Eugene, Ore.
