The Georgia College Bobcats men’s basketball team traveled to Clark Atlanta Thursday night to get revenge for a game that ended on an overtime putback dunk to win the game for the Panthers two weeks ago.
In a back and forth game with each team making their runs, GC found themselves down 11-2 at the start of the game before rallying behind three 3-pointers from Junior guard Ryan Blumenthal to put the Bobcats back in the ballgame. Blumenthal was the star of the night, scoring 21 points for the game, 14 of which came in the first half.
Stealing the momentum, Georgia College pulled out in front to a cushioning 22-point lead in the second half. However, Clark Atlanta would not go away easily in front of their home crowd. They cut the lead to just seven points with under eight minutes to go. But because of the foul trouble of several Panthers players, GC was able to increase the lead at the free throw line.
The Bobcats defense was solid throughout the majority of the night; holding the Panthers leading scorer coming into the game, Cornell Barnett, to just 12 points. The Bobcats held off the late rally and won by a score of 76-63. Leading scorers for GC were Ryan Blumenthal (21), Terrelll Harris (16), and Larrentis Thomas (10). Thomas came just two rebounds short of recording his fifth straight double-double.The Bobcats team, now winners of three in a row (improving their overall record to 5-2, 0-0), will travel to Fort Valley State on Saturday. The game is scheduled to tip off at 8:00 PM.
