The University of West Georgia Athletic Department as well as the coaching staffs of the various teams have been hard at work this summer with planning and putting on camps and events. With five camps/tryouts already in the books for this summer, there are still plenty of chances to showcase your abilities if you meet the requirements. Also, if you are a fan, there are a couple chances for you to get involved as well.
Volleyball Camps
**All camps/tournaments from UWG Athletics accept check or credit card only, unless stated otherwise. Checks must be made out to UWG Athletics**
Coach Trina Braden has a few camps planned this summer. The first camp is July 13th through the 15th and is a UWG All-Skills Camp. Any girls in grades six through twelve can register for the camp. The campers will receive instruction from the players and coaches in various aspects of the game. These include, but are not limited to: blocking, hitting, passing, serve receive, and serving.
The fee for overnight campers is $325. This fee includes 6 meals, a camp T-shirt, and 2 nights of lodging. As well as all the insight you or your child could learn or be a part of.
The fee for commuter campers is $250. This fee includes 6 meals and a camp T-shirt. Registration for the overnight camp will begin at 7:00 a.m. on July 13 and will conclude at 9:00 a.m. There will be a $100 non-refundable deposit due by July 8.
Coach Braden is also putting on one-day training sessions beginning Sunday, July 24th and ending Tuesday, July 26th. All skill levels are welcome, as there will be a specific day for each one.
The first day is the Beginner All-Skills Camp for kids with less than one year of experience. This camp will take place July 24th from 3:30-9:00 p.m.
The intermediate skills camp intended for kids with 1-3 years of experience will be held on the 25th. There will be three available slots: 9am-12pm, 1:30-4:30, and 5pm-8pm.
An Advanced (3+ years of competitive school experience – intended for college-bound players, varsity team players and and/or highly competitive 14u or higher club players) Skills camp will be held on the 26th and will also have three available slots: 9am-12pm, 1:30-4:30, and 5pm-8pm.
Registration will begin exactly one hour prior to the start time of each camp. For example, if you plan on attending the 9 a.m camp, registration will begin at 8 a.m. The fee for the beginner’s clinic is $100 and the fee for the intermediate and advanced sessions is $60 per session or $160 for all three. All players should bring the essentials such as kneepads, athletic wear, and shoes. Athletes participating in more than one session will be provided a box lunch.

Women’s Basketball Prospect Camp
The women’s basketball coaching staff will be hosting a prospect camp on Saturday, July 16th. The camp is open to players in grades 9-12 or JUCO/Transfer players. The camp will last from 1:00-4:30 p.m and will include instruction and coaching from UWG players and coaches.
It will feature skill-development drills, 5-on-5 scrimmages, insight on college life, and much more. The cost for the camp is only $30.

Baseball Showcase
The UWG baseball program will have an instructional showcase on Saturday, August 13th at Cole Field. The event will offer the opportunity for rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors wishing to play ball at the collegiate level to showcase their abilities to college coaches.
The West Georgia coaching staff will be in attendance as well as college coaches from the surrounding area. A “pro-style” workout will kick start the event and it will conclude with a showcase scrimmage. Lunch will also be provided in the University Dining Hall. This will be included in the camp cost.
The deadline for registration is August 10th and there is a 60 player limit on the camp. You can pre-register by clicking this link. An $85 Non-refundable pre-registration payment can be made to UWG Athletics. Walk-up registration is $95.
Opportunities for Fans
Wolves Golf Classic
The 7th-annual Wolves Golf Classic is set for Friday, July 22nd at Oak Mountain Championship Golf Club. The tournament will tee off at 8 a.m. and the cost is $125 per person or $400 for a foursome. This cost will include 18 holes, your cart, food and drink, as well as a chance to win various prizes throughout the day. Anyone and everyone over the age of 7 can enter the tournament.
There will be a multitude of contests such as several longest drive holes, closest to the pin challenges, and a Hole-in-one shot. Various raffles will also be going on during the tournament. However, you must act fast. According to a tweet sent out this morning by the UWG Athletics Twitter, there are only a few spots still open in the tournament.
Football 101
The West Georgia football team and athletic department are hosting an informational event called Football 101 on July 14th. It will take place in the press box at University Stadium. The event will run from 10 a.m to 1 p.m and includes lunch. The cost for the event is $50.
Fans in attendance will hear from Coach Hall as well as multiple offensive and defensive coaches. The coaches are there to prepare you for what is to come in 2016, as well as keys to look for to better your understanding of the game. The special team’s coaches will also go into detail about what makes our special teams units so ‘special’. A large part of the instruction will presented from the perspective of the coaches’ wives.
A Referee will also be there to teach the people in attendance about the different signals of the game, how you can get those penalties, and how they can effect each team. 2016 game day apparel announcements will be made as well as plans to enhance game day experiences with programming and themes. This summer has already been full camps and tryouts put on by the University and its officials. Coach Hall and the Football staff had one of the most successful camps this school has probably ever seen last month. In addition to the showcase that roughly 1,000 kids attended, the football team has already held two summer tryouts. One was back in April and one was more recent, on June 27th.
The Men’s Basketball team and coaching staff have also been hard at work this summer. The team held 5 camps in the month of June that allowed high schoolers to improve their abilities and showcase their talents. The camps were held on June 4th, 8th, 11th, 22nd, and 25th. A kid’s camp was also held from June 20th-23rd that allowed the younger kids to improve their game.
With the success of the events the teams and department have recently held, these upcoming events are sure to be a hit as well. If you are a high school athlete, I definitely recommend attending one of these tryouts or showcases. West Georgia just had one of the best schools years in terms of sports in the school’s history. There truly is no better time to be a wolf!
