With it being a January, basketball season is in full stride as the teams cross the halfway mark on their schedule and begin to round the curve toward home stretch. With every team fighting and clawing their way to put themselves in position to make a deep postseason run, let’s take a moment to catch up with the Wolves’ basketball teams.
The UWG women’s basketball team has shown glimpses of potential, but have struggled recently in conference play. Now sitting at 4-10 (2-6 in GSC) on the year, they are looking to turn things around as they continue conference play. The Lady Wolves started to build a little momentum with a big GSC win over bitter rival Valdosta State last night. The win was a nail bitting, neck-and-neck thriller that came down to the wire, with the Wolves prevailing 55-51. Hoping to continue the small streak, UWG will host the West Florida Argonauts this Saturday before embarking on a three game road trip.
The UWG men’s basketball team started off the season on a high note, winning 10 out of their first 11 games. Unfortunately the Wolves have hit a rough streak, dropping five straight games, all in conference playing. Where the Wolves 10-6 (3-5 in GSC) record may not indicate the season is in jeopardy, they are in a desperate need of a win. The Wolves lost a tough match last night to Valdosta State, after failing to hit quality shots down the stretch. Eager to get back to winning ways, UWG will also host the West Florida Argonauts this Saturday. Similar to the Lady Wolves, the Wolves also face a challenge ahead as 3 out of their next 4 games will be on the road.
