MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Berry College men’s basketball team (1-1) earned their first win of the season in dramatic fashion against Huntingdon College (0-2) on Saturday.
The Vikings won 79-76, but the final two minutes were played with only four players as fouls mounted up to disqualify four of the eight healthy Vikings. Four-on-Five, the Vikings matched Huntingdon point-for-point to hold on to the lead. As Huntingdon continued to foul the Vikings down the stretch with hopes of cutting into the lead, the Vikings hit 8-8 free throws to silence the Hawks.
Under new head coach, Jeff Rogers, the Vikings’ defense played aggressively and forced 20 turnovers resulting in 17 points. Senior guard, Mac Whalen, led the team with 20 points before he fouled out of the game. From the field the Vikings shot 41.4%, a slight improvement from last season’s 40.8% average.
The Vikings next game is at Emory & Henry College (2-0) on Nov. 23.
