Reinhardt defeats Point University
Last week No. 3 Reinhardt went home with a 62-28 win over Point University. The Eagles went out soaring with a score of 41-0 at the half. The Eagles are now 4-0 and 1-0 in the Mid-South Conference. Point came out strong in the third quarter with a 50 yard pass. Shortly after, the Skyhawks gained a 100 yard touchdown. Point University lead in the third quarter 21-7. However, the Eagles came back with two more touchdowns. Reinhardt will look for another win this Homecoming week against a strong University of the Cumberlands team. Reinhardt will look to continue its strong rushing attack as the Eagles are averaging 402.5 yards rushing on the ground.
University of the Cumberlands
University of the Cumberlands last played Union College and pulled a 33-30 win. The Patriots started the game off with a 7-0 lead by a 14-yard pass by Josiah Robbin to Shon Jones. Their defense stayed strong to hold the Union Bulldogs on fourth down. However, the Patriots offense struggled to finish the possession and was forced to punt the ball. Robbins held the team together throughout the game with a passing total of 181 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions or fumbles. Steph Burke and Salon Reynolds added a total of 144 yards, while Shon Jones and Austin Ysidro combined had six catches, 78 yards, and two touchdowns. UC rushed a total of 239 yards and passed for 181 yards. Their defense was lead by Tyler Pendleton, Robbie Gavin, and Murphy Hagen. Senior kicker Joe Rose kicked the game-winning field goal in the fourth quarter. He also earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors. The Patriots are 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the MSC Appalachian Division.
Match Up with Patriots
The Patriots look to go 5-1 while the #3 ranked Reinhardt looks to keep an unblemished record. It looks like Reinhardt very well may come away the win. While Cumberlands is an established program in recent years that program has seen a decline. Last year was not as successful as this year is turning out to be. For Reinhardt Dylan Wiggens looks to keep adding on to his great season as he already has 233 yards passing with 3 touchdowns on the year. Reinhardt’s two leading rushers are neck and neck. Que Stocks is number one and two is Montralius Mosley; Stocks has 265 yards rushing and five touchdowns and Mosley has 264 yards rushing and three touchdowns. These are pretty impressive stats since Reinhardt has only played four games. As will see throughout the season Reinhardt doesn’t do that much different on offense ever. When you play Reinhardt you know their going to run the ball down your throat.
Predictions
Reinhardt has the distinct advantage in what could be one of their toughest games this season. Reinhardt is playing consistent football in all phases of the game. The Patriots offense is averaging less then 300 yards rushing a game and have not faced a defense as dominate as Reinhardt’s. The Eagles are averaging 50 points per game and are a top ten offense in the nation. Reinhardt should have no problem scoring this week. Saturday’s game could prove pivotal in deciding the Mid-South Conference championship and potential playoff births. The matchup will take place at 1:30 PM at Ken White field on Reinhardt’s campus.
