The Georgia State Men’s Panthers, led by fifth year Head Coach Ron Hunter, have started off the 2015-2016 season playing impressively, winning 10 out of 13 contests.
The Panthers are currently 4th in the Sun Belt Conference. Moreover, the Panthers are currently on a three game winning streak with victories over Texas State, Troy, and South Alabama. Georgia State has been riding the great play of Junior Forward Jeremy Hollowell. The Indiana transfer has been a big key in the Panthers success, averaging 15.8 points per game 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Hollowell was named Sun Belt Conference Student Athlete of the week as well as Sun Belt Conference player of the week after back to back 20 plus point performances against Troy and South Alabama.
Coach Hunter’s Panthers three losses so far this season came by way of Ole Miss, UAB and UT- Arlington. Senior guard Kevin Ware is also a pivotal part of the team’s success averaging 13.6 points per game 4.2 rebounds per game and 3.2 assists. With the Panthers’ 70-55 win over South Alabama, the team has now won 14 straight, dating back to last season.
Offensively Coach Hunters’ squad has averaged 67.0 points per game shooting .457 from the field. Also, the Panthers has hit 66 out of 194 three point attempts, a .340 percentage. The foul line has been very kind to the Panthers as they are shooting .719 percent from the free throw line.
On the other end, defensively the team has been solid with 90 steals on the season, causing a 14.2 turnovers per game ratio for opponents, and 49 blocks on the year thus far. The team is on a 3 game winning streak, with a 3-1 conference record and 7-2 non conference record, making them 10-3 overall. The Panthers look to gain their fourth consecutive win on January 14, 15′ at GSU Sports Arena. Tip off is at 7:30pm Est.
