ATLANTA, Ga—Aisha Cruz (Kentucky State) was named Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, while Payton Gidney earned Offensive Player of the Week honor, released Wednesday by the league office.
Cruz helped Kentucky State to a 3-0 record last week over Midway (Ky). The 5’5 sophomore libero from Puerto Rico finished the week with 11 digs, two aces, and one assist. She averaged 3.67 digs per set leading the Thorobreds to win their season opener.
The Thorobreds will continue their season as they participate in the Kentucky Wesleyan Tournament this Friday beginning at noon where they will face Bluefield State College.
Gidney, a 5’9 sophomore outside hitter from Grapevine, Tx., led Spring Hill to a 3-0 sweep over Mississippi College last week. She averaged 10.5 points in the match against the Choctaws and finished the week with four digs, nine kills, and one ace.
The Badgers will travel to New Orleans, La. to face Xavier University of Louisiana tomorrow at 6 pm.
