ATLANTA, GA | The Morehouse Maroon Tigers proudly hosted and dominated the recent Morehouse Relays track and field meet with an impressive team performance, clinching first place overall with 181.5 points. They significantly outpaced their nearest competitor, Albany State, which finished with 129 points, followed by Tennessee State with 111.5 points.
Morehouse athletes showcased their talents across various events, bringing home multiple medals. Michael Simmons Jr. led the charge with an outstanding performance in the 400 meters, setting a personal record and NCAA qualifying time of 47.18 seconds to claim gold. Jermiah Alibey also secured gold with a personal best and NCAA qualifying time of 52.67 seconds in the 400m hurdles.
In the relay events, Morehouse demonstrated exceptional teamwork and speed, capturing gold medals in the 4×400 relay (Sidney Morris, Owynn Brown, Jayden Smith, Michael Simmons Jr.) with a time of 3:10.91, the 4×800 relay (Owynn Brown, Dennis Kipruto, Jermiah Alibey, Jordan Ellul) finishing in 8:28.17, and the Distance Medley Relay in 11:04.24. The 4×200 relay team (Evan Alphonse, Victor Bowles, Camren Clayborn, Avery Jones) added a silver medal to the impressive relay haul.
Individually, Logan McCormick soared to gold in the high jump with a personal best clearance of 2.00 meters, and Camren Clayborn threw his way to victory in the discus, setting another personal best at 42.80 meters. Clayborn also earned a bronze medal in shot put with a throw of 13.29 meters.
Other notable performances included Owynn Brown’s silver in the 1500 meters (4:05.90) and Phoenix Satterfield’s silver medal finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:42.40).
