WACO, TX—Albany State University and Tuskegee University’s football programs were ranked in the 2017 Division II American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top 25 Coaches Poll, announced Monday.
Following a thrilling 29-12 triumph over Valdosta State in their season opener, Albany State has captured No. 20 in the AFCA Coaches Poll.
Albany State dominated over Valdosta State in turnovers, short fields, and defensive touchdowns which led them to their 23-0 lead in the 4th quarter.
The Golden Rams, coached by first-year head football coach Gabe Giardina, pushed them into their first win over the Blazers since 2004. This game earned Albany State 197 points and their first national title since 2012.
Immediately following is Tuskegee’s Golden Tigers, ranked No. 22 in the AFCA Coaches Poll.
The Golden Tigers opened up their season against Alabama State in a 14-6 win on Saturday.
After winning their second-straight game over Alabama State, the Golden Tigers received 138 points after sealing the victory with a 46-yard interception for a touchdown with 10:57 remaining.
Despite dropping down from last years’ preseason poll, the Golden Tigers head coach, Willie Slater, is excited for what this season has to offer.
The two nationally ranked teams will face off this Saturday in the White Water Classic in Phenix City, AL at 5:00 pm airing on ESPN3.
