Last weekend the Albany State Golden Rams took on Florida AandM in the first matchup between the two schools since 1993. The 1-0 Golden Rams traveled down to Tallassee, Florida to take on the 0-2 Rattlers in a SIAC versus SWAC duel. The match was originally scheduled to take place in 2020 but due to covid the match had to be postponed. This gave more time for the hype about these two teams playing to build up. With Albany State proving to be a constant force in the SIAC the Golden Rams were ready to see how they would fair against a SWAC opponent.
The Golden Rams came out to prove a point marching down the field on a 12-play 81-yard drive that ended in a 7-yard touchdown by running back Marcius Fulks. The Golden Rams defense would hold the Rattlers scoreless for the rest of the first quarter. Albany State followed up the touchdown drive with a great interception by cornerback Tavian Mayon. After the Golden Rams’ hot start to the game, the Rattlers would begin seizing control scoring the next 23 points. Ultimately the Rattlers were too much for the Golden Rams. Quarterback Jeremy Moussa went 16-29 for 230 yards and a touchdown and wide receiver Xavier Smith had 8 catches for 118 yards and a touchdown. The Golden Rams showed no signs of quitting, scoring one more touchdown by running back Marcius Fulk with 20 seconds left in the game to make the final score Florida A&M 23 Albany State 13. The Rams were led by running backs Kam Ward who rushed for 89 yards and Marcius Fulks who had 51 yards and two touchdowns. Also, quarterback Dionte Bonneau threw for 144 yards.
Next the golden rams look to bounce back as they travel to Rome, Georgia to take on Shorter University in a nonconference match up on September 17th(image Hbcusports.com).
