The Georgia College Bobcats softball team was back in action on Saturday and Sunday, hosting two double headers throughout the weekend; a Saturday match up versus Anderson University and a Sunday match up versus Albany State University.
The Bobcats, coming into the weekend 2-2, looked to improve on that record, and they did. The Saturday duo pitted Georgia College against an undefeated Anderson team (4-0). However, in the first game, it was no trouble with their ace on the mound. Junior pitcher Marisa Boyette picked up her third win of the season. Holding the Trojans to just three runs on six hits, she pitched her third complete game of the season. The offense was not shy either. The Bobcat’s bats ignited, scoring four runs in the fourth and nine runs in the ballgame. Freshman DH, Holland Coursey, led the offensive production, going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
Game two belonged to Sophomore RHP Carly Lewis. Lewis was masterful on the mound, picking up her first win of the season; a complete game shutout, only allowing four hits. The offense for GC scored 6 runs, all coming in the bottom of the fifth. There were two home runs in that inning, including a solo shot by Lewis and a three run shot by catcher Taylor Campbell. The Bobcats cruised to the 6-0 victory.
Sunday was not much different for the Bobcats, as they would play host to an Albany State University ball club who had yet to play their first game of the season. The story was once again: great pitching and good offense. Boyette (4-0) once again tossed a complete game in the first, her fourth of the season allowing just one run on two hits and winning 8-1. Carly Lewis (2-2) also pitched another complete game in game two, allowing just two runs on five hits and winning 4-2. The Bobcats record improves to 6-2 as they will take on West Georgia at home on Tuesday afternoon.
