The Columbus State Lady Cougars opened the season against Albany State with an 82-71 win in the Frank G. Lumpkin Center Friday night. PBC Preseason All-Conference Selection LeeAysia Williamson continued her strong play from last season as she racked up 21 points with eight rebounds and seven assists. Junior Chrisalyn Boston dominated the paint putting up a double-double with 15 points and 13 boards.
Head Coach Matt Houser was delighted to have his first win under his belt. “I think there was a lot of excitement to try to execute and do the things we’ve been practicing. I was pleased with the way we played as our energy on defense helped us to open up offensively.”
The Lady Cougars look to finish the PBC/SIAC Challenge with a win as they play Fort Valley on Saturday, November 16th. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Center.

The Lady Cougars struggled to find a rhythm as they trailed 13-12 after the first 10 minutes of the game. But CSU shot 62% from the field in the second quarter giving them a 38-25 halftime lead. |
Second Half |
Albany State hit four threes in the third quarter as they tried to cut into the deficit, but the Lady Cougars kept the pressure on them thanks in part to an eight-point quarter from Williamson. From there CSU held off the Golden Rams as their defense clamped down on the late rally. |
