The ECU Pirates are currently 2-1 headed into game four this week against Virginia Tech.
Week one the Pirates played against Western Carolina where they were able to blow them out of the water 52-7. For some of the key players on his Pirate team such as DaShaun Amos and Zay Jones it would be their last “first game”. “Bittersweet” is how Zay described the feeling going into that game but, he was excited to get the season kicked off and enjoy the season with his teammates. Amos said practically the exact same thing about his emotions he had heading into his last first game, being excited but also a bittersweet moment for him.
With another home game for week 2 the Pirates were faced with taking on in state rivals, NC State. This game had emotions running high all throughout the city of Greenville. The energy for that game was literally insane. I’ve never seen anything like it. NC State had been TRASH talking ECU that entire week leading up to the game, even burning ECU clothes. But, the Pirates got the last laugh as they took the W beating the Wolfpack 33-30!
However, the Pirates had their first away game of the season this past weekend against South Carolina where the tides took a turn. There were a lot of mistakes made in this game, like too many fumbles in the red zone. Defensive played their hearts out. Unfortunately the stats did not match the score. Isaiah Jones had a heck of game where he set a new school record with 22 receptions in a single game.
This week the Pirates will be headed to Blacksburg Virginia where they will take on the Virginia Tech Hokies. Last season the Pirates were able to beat the Hokies 35-28 on rainy day in Dowdy.
