Gainesville, FL — The Elon Phoenix women’s tennis team traveled to Florida for the 2015 ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Phoenix was in a group of four consisting of No. 68 Maryland, No. 61 Georgia State, and host team No. 2 Florida.

Elon opened up the weekend against Florida. The Phoenix competed well throughout but ultimately was outmatched by the Gators. Florida swept the doubles point and captured the first three singles matches to clinch a 4-0 win. A bright spot for Elon was on courts number 3 and number 5. Elon’s Erica Braschi played battled a very close first set and Kamilla Beisenova of Elon was in a first set tiebreaker when the match was called.

The second day Elon took on Georgia State but was sluggish from the start. Elon quickly lost the doubles point and was unable to capitalize on opportunities in singles and once again lost 4-0. Elon was ahead in the three singles matches remaining.

With the loss Elon drops to 0-4 on the season and will continue its tough schedule with a trip to Wake Forest on February 7th.
