Wednesday night primetime, two great coaches battled in a head to head matchup. Bo Ryan and Mike Krzyzewski both have coached at prestigious basketball programs Wisconsin and Duke for a while now. The two coaches mold their players into great young men who know how to play the game of basketball.
Wisconsin hosted Duke last night and the game was played like it was the Final Four of the NCAA tournament. Wisconsin ranked number two and Duke ranked number four someone had to drop in the rankings.
The game started off with each team trading baskets and the lead back and forth for majority of the half. Then the young Duke team took off with the lead holding a consistent lead throughout the rest of the game. Wisconsin fought from behind from there on out.
They (Duke) looked very polished early in the season. They start three freshman and arguably have the best player in college basketball in Jahlil Okafor. Quinn Cook and Amile Jefferson are veterans on this team. They lead and hold this team together very well. Quinn keeps the backcourt very poised throughout the game as he has been in many of these battles throughout his four years at Duke. While Quinn keeps the young guards level headed, Amile handles the frontcourt.
Wisconsin is always in the top rankings for team defense, but Duke’s lights out shooting destroyed the Badgers. The Blue Devils were the first team to shoot over 60% at the Kohl Center in Madison since Ryan became the head coach for the Badgers. For the game they shot better then 65%.
Ryan was not upset about his teams performance, it is early in the year and this will not stop them for trying to get to the Final Four in March. What Ryan does know is that Duke is the better team. In his post game press conference he says, “They are a better team then us right now.”
The freshman guard Tyus Jones led the Blue Devils with 22 points on 7 out of 11 shooting. Cook and Okafor both added 13 to help push the Devils over the Badgers. The Duke team looks like it is destined to make its championship run this year as they have fell short in the last few years. They are a strong team and very well rounded with talent at every position. They improved to 8-0 on the season.
Is it possible for them to be the only team capable of beating Kentucky?
