The Jackson State Tigers, took on the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats at the Veteran’s Memorial Stadium in Jackson, MS on October 23, 2021.

The JSU Tigers were led by former wide receivers coach from Florida Atlantic, Gary Harell, who is now the running backs coach for JSU. Earlier this week, on Wednesday October 20, 20221, Coach Deion Sanders made a statement ,earlier in the week, that he would not be coaching the JSU and Bethune . Coach Sanders’ doctor ordered that he be sidelined due to his recent foot surgery.
The Game
JSU started off rocky in the first quarter, gaining 55 total yards and one first down. Shedeur Sanders was 4 of 7 for 38 yards, including a fumble and two sacks. The Wildcats were able to score first when Shano Patrick threw to Dylaan Lee for a 29 yard touchdown which brought the score to 6-0.
Sanders accounted for three touchdowns before halftime, throwing to Malachi Wideman for touchdowns of 28 and 4 yards and rushing for a 17-yard score.
In the third quarter Shedeur Sanders appeared to overthrow the ball to Malachi Wideman , but Wideman managed to make a diving effort to secure the catch while falling into the end zone. It was one of two second half Sanders touchdown completions of 39 and 23 yards to Wideman that led to a 42-12 victory over Bethune.
JSU is now 6-1, Bethuune-Cookman is 0-8; Gary Harrell expects Sanders to return to the sidelines for next Saturday’s game against Mississippi Valley State.
