The Reinhardt Lady Eagles traveled to Allen University on Wednesday, January 16th for an AAC Conference game. Reinhardt entered the night with a 11-6 overall record, 10-4 in the AAC, riding a four-game win streak. Reinhardt was unable to overcome a strong performance by Allen falling 91-79.
Reinhardt had won the previous matchup between the Yellow Jackets earlier in the season, but on Wednesday night the Yellow Jackets of Allen University evened the series, pushing the lady Eagles to a record of 11-7 Overall, 10-5 in the AAC.
Reinhardt kept the game in reach before the Yellow Jackets pulled away in the final minutes. Bethany Headrick’s led Reinhardt with 29 points going 13 of 18 shooting, and Emily Erameh added 24 points going 11 of 18 from the field. Jada Hubbard and Catherine Shope added 10 and 9 respectively. Defensively, Erameh recorded a team-best seven rebounds while Hubbard pulled in five of her own.
The Eagles got out to a fast start and held an early lead while shooting 47.8 percent from the field, but it was not enough to bring down the Lady Yellow Jackets on their home floor in Columbia. The Yellow Jackets shot 58.2 percent and that would help lead them to a victory over the Eagles. The Yellow Jackets advantage was shooting 8 of 14 behind the three-point arc, while the Eagles struggled behind the arc. The three-point shooting was the difference that helped the Lady Jackets overcome an early deficit and lead them to a victory.
The lady Eagles will be back in action this Saturday, January 19th, at Tennessee Wesleyan, at 2pm to take on the bulldogs in an AAC conference showdown.
