The LSU Track & Field teams will begin their championship season this weekend as they join their conference opponents in the 2017 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships beginning today at the University of South Carolina.
The three-day SEC Championship kicks off with the men’s decathlon at 9:15 a.m. CT followed by the start of the women’s heptathlon at 9:30 a.m. Today will also feature the beginning of the first field-event finals with the men’s hammer throw at noon followed by the preliminary races on the track at 5 p.m.
Currently, The Lady Tigers and Tigers are ranked among the nation’s best teams, according to the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national power rankings. The Lady Tigers are the No. 4 ranked women’s team in the country while the Tigers are ranked No. 6 in the nation.
On Friday, the multi-events will continue. The decathlon will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the heptathlon at 10:30 a.m. The first field events will begin at 1:30 p.m. and the opening events on the track will start at 5:30 p.m.
To conclude the three-day championship on Saturday, competition at Weems Baskin Track will start at 10 a.m. in the field and 2:15 p.m. on the track. In addition, the 4×400-meter relays will begin at 5:50 p.m.
For the championships, the SEC features a total of seven top-10 and 11 top-25 teams nationally on the women’s side. Those teams include No. 5 Arkansas, No. 6 Kentucky, No. 7 Georgia, No. 8 Florida, No. 10 Alabama, No. 13 Auburn, No. 16 Ole Miss, No. 22 Tennessee and No. 25 South Carolina.
Headlining the men’s field in Columbia will be No. 1 Texas A&M, No. 2 Florida, No. 3 Georgia, No. 5 Alabama, No. 9 Arkansas, No. 12 Ole Miss, No. 18 Auburn, No. 19 South Carolina, No. 21 Kentucky, No. 22 Mississippi State and No. 23 Tennessee.

After competing at the SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend, the Tigers and Lady Tigers will travel to Lexington, Kentucky, to compete at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds running May 25-27 at UK’s Outdoor Track & Field Complex at the University of Kentucky. The semifinal and final rounds of the 2017 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held June 7 to June 10 at Oregon’s Hayward Field.
