Oglethorpe junior midfielder Nick Muntean earned the SAA Men’s Soccer Offensive Player
of the Week award today after playing a huge part in the Stormy Petrels’ 2-1 comeback victory over
Piedmont on Tuesday.
Muntean, a native of Duluth, Ga., has picked up right where he left off at the beginning of last year
before suffering a season-ending knee injury. In the game against Piedmont, he brought the team back
from a 1-0 second-half deficit, assisting on both Stormy Petrel goals while repeatedly challenging the
Piedmont defense down the flank. He fired six shots for the game, putting three of them on target.
For the season, Muntean has played in all 10 games for the Stormy Petrels and is tied for fifth in the SAA in points with seven. In addition, he’s third in the league in shots (34) and in shots on goal (13).
He and the rest of the Stormy Petrels will play two big road games this week. The first will be
Wednesday night, when the team travels to take on No. 11 Emory, their crosstown rivals, at 7 p.m. Then
on Friday, the Petrels get SAA play started when they journey to Mount Berry, Ga., to take on Berry at 5 p.m.
